Prayer is an extremely important part of everything we do!!
We aim to highlight the importance of prayer and to integrate it into everyday working, thus keeping God at the centre of all of Manchester City Mission's work.
This section of the website will be regularly updated with prayer requests for each project, thus hopefully enabling you to focus your prayers if you wish to support us in this way.
Street Soccer
We have an open door into Forest Bank prison, we have strated to go in regularly to play football and spend time with the inmates afterwards. This is a massive opportunity as no other groups/teams currently go into the prison to engage in sporting activities. Please pray for the profound impact this could have on the guys we take in (who used to be inside) and those who we look to build relationships with there.
Two regulars at Street Soccer Manchester have recently made commitments of faith and are starting out in their journey with God – pray for Thomas and Simon as they attend church and house group and become a part of ‘the body’.
Please pray for more commitments to faith by clients. Also pray for the volunteers as they lead them through this.
Momentum is being built with Street Soccer Salford and relationships are slowly starting to develop. Pray for continual opportunities for us to speak into these guys lives during the ‘God slot’ at the end of the sessions and over food as we have lunch together.
As one or two key volunteers move on, please pray that God will replace them with equivalent new volunteers to sustain the great relationships that have been built.
‘David’ has started attending alpha with one of the volunteers on Street Soccer Bolton so pray that he would come to a living faith in Christ and finds the sessions helpful.
Street Soccer Stockport is soon to be launched, please pray for the development of this!
Groundbreakers
Please continue to pray for:
- Opportunity
- Partners
-
Fruit
Praise God that all the lunch time clubs are now up and running and numbers have been increasing every week. Also that they now have helpers at the groups, especially as numbers get larger!!
They have had requests for lunch time clubs from 3 new schools for the new year, all of whom got their info in different ways - Christian book shops, flyers and word of mouth. We thank God that Groundbreakers is growing steadily. Please pray that they will easily fit these in to their existing schedule.
Please pray for good conversations with the Heads of schools they are in currently, in order to find out how we can best serve them next.
Thank God for the positive feed back from the little survey that Jo did, and that Groundbreakers clubs and assemblies are providing kids with a fun and exciting way of exploring the Christian faith.
Their main prayer is that this work continues to expand and that many more children will be touched with the love of God and know they are special.
Ground breakers have also had requests to go into schools in Rochdale, please pray for the development of this, and that Mary may be able to find more time in her busy schedule.
Freestylin'
Harper Green has massive demand from year 7 and 8’s so we’re considering running 2 sessions a week – pray for wisdom and further volunteers to make this possible.
With suitable volunteers on board Andy should now be able to start thinking about the next schools to aim for. Please pray that it’ll be clear with which direction to go with this.
Please pray for more young people to link into local youth groups.
Please pray for the local churches as they take on the running of Freestylin' at Withins School.
Windsor Drop-in
Please pray for:
-
Our partners in this ministry, Salford Loaves and Fishes.
-
Success with the new opening hours – we now serve breakfast from 10am.
-
More volunteers to expand the activities on offer.
- The removal of the difficulties of starting basic English, Maths and IT and that teachers, books and computers would be found .
- The garden project, that it would have someone in place to run it and that the appropriate equipment is in place.
-
Those that attend the drop-in, as winter well and truly sets in.
-
For the people who attend the drop-in, that they will be touched by God, and that their lifestyles and hearts will be changed.
- The staff who reach out to our clients, that our Lord would be with them in all that they do for them.
Please pray for Chris as he has moved on from his work in the mission, pray that God gives him a clear path to follow. Please also pray for Dave Bullock who has joined the mission as the new drop-in co-ordinator, pray that he quickly finds his feet and settles in.
